The Creation Of Mankind
Besides evolution there are many theories on the creation of mankind.
One theory suggests that human beings were as old as the gods, that they appeared at, or around about the same time. Another view is that mankind was produced from objects, and fashioned by the forces and elements of nature, in other words they grew from stones and trees, and were issued from oceans and rivers, of course, there is the god that may have brought mankind into the world, Prometheus, the fire-bringer who made mankind from earth and water.
One account of the creation of mankind follows the thoughts that it was Zeus (the gods themselves) that created mankind in five stages, the other account of the creation of mankind follows that of Prometheus and Epimetheus.
The two stories may differ in their accounts, but they do agree on one single point. For a long time, certainly throughout the happy Golden Age, only men were upon the earth; no women. Zeus created these later (Pandora), in his anger at Prometheus caring so much for men.
Zecharia Sitchin, like Velikovsky and von Däniken, presents an entertaining story based on belief about ancient visitors from other worlds.
According to Sitchin, ancient Sumerian clay tablets reveal that gods from another planet (Nibiru, which orbits our Sun every 3,600 years) arrived on Earth some 450,000 years ago and created humans by genetic engineering of female apes.
Then in fundamental Christianity there are still two (2) creation stories – the Genesis 6 day account and the 8th day account. This is where the 6 day account accepts that Genesis 1 and 2 are the same creation account. The 8th day account sees them as separate and holds to the Genesis 1 being “created” and the Genesis 2 as being “formed”.
I will start with the theory I don’t believe in and that is the creation of man being 2 separate events.
Their belief is something like this:
The Differences between the two creation events
In Genesis chapter One they all (plural) were CREATED.
1) Created is Hebrew word #1254 bara’; “…male and female created he them” (Gen 1:27)
2) They are created male and female at the same time. No ‘Adam’s Rib’ here!
3) They were simply created, human and mortal; “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment” (Heb 9:27).
4) They are told to multiply; “…Be fruitful and multiply…” (Gen 1:28)
5) Mankind given dominion over animals and fish.
6) The animals were wild animals and the plants were wild plants. No names given.
7) There was not yet rain.
8) The creation was completed. All the various races, men and women alike, were created.
But in Genesis chapter Two
1) Adam alone (singular) is FORMED; Formed is Hebrew word #3335 yatsar “…in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed.” (Gen 2:8)
2) Adam is formed some time before Eve; She later being made from him.
3) Adam given the breath of life, became a living soul; (Adam would have lived forever had he not fell – see Gen 6:3 “for that he also is flesh”); Ask yourself, “also,” as in whom else?
4) No such command is given to Adam and Eve; (Adam’s family was told to multiply after the flood; i.e., Noah’s family was told in Gen 9:1).
5) Adam was a farmer.
6) They were domestic animals and crop plants; Adam named these.
7) “…went up a mist from the earth…”(Gen 2:6)
8) But after that, in Gen 2:5, God saw that He “did not have a man to till the ground” (farmer).
So God then FORMED Adam.
But probably the most striking evidence that Genesis chapter One and Genesis chapter Two are not speaking of the same event would be:
In Gen 1, the plants and animals were created BEFORE man(kind) was created.\r\nIn Gen 2, the plants and animals were formed AFTER the man Adam was formed.
Genesis 1:26
Then God[1] said, “Let Us[2] make man in Our[3] image, according to Our[4] likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
[1]God, [2]us, [3]our, [4]our = God and the Angels. Strong’s Concordance defines the Hebrew word used here for “God” as ‘elohiym and it is in the plural sense. The definition of this Hebrew word ‘elohiym is God: Hebrew word #430 ‘elohiym (el-o-heem’); plural of 433; gods in the ordinary sense; but specifically used (in the plural thus, especially with the article) of the supreme God; occasionally applied by way of deference to magistrates; and sometimes as a superlative: KJV– angels, X exceeding, God (gods)- dess, -ly), X (very) great, judges, X mighty.
Here the EDC (eighth day creationists) see the first introduction of the term LORD God (Yehovah ‘elohiym) to be The God of (over) the angels. Whereas (‘elohiym) here means God and the angels.
This is what is referred to as the Eighth Day Creation; though whether it was the eighth day and not some other later day is not specifically mentioned in the Scripture; the point is that it was after the seventh day of God’s rest which in turn was after the sixth day wherein all of mankind was created. The title “Eighth Day” is simply a term to distinguish it’s events from the sixth day (the sixth was definitely so designated as being the sixth of seven).
Genesis 2:4-7
This is the history of the heavens and the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens, before any plant of the field was in the earth and before any herb of the field had grown. For the LORD God had not caused it to rain on the earth, and there was no man to till the ground; but a mist went up from the earth and watered the whole face of the ground. And the LORD God[1] formed[2] man[3] of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being. (NKJV)
[1] LORD God – Here in (Gen 2:7) is the first time in the Bible that the title ‘The Lord God” appears, and it is in connection with the forming of Adam in the garden of Eden. This title or name ‘The Lord God’ is: Jehovah ‘Elohiym, and it means: The Lord God of the Angels. Prior to this, the title of the Creator of mankind on the sixth day was ‘God’ which as you remember is: ‘Elohiym, and means: God and the Angels. (Gen 1:26). This serves to further distinguish the Forming of Adam from the creation of the rest of mankind in general.
[2] formed – Here again we see a unique word use in connection with Adam in the Garden of Eden. Compare the fact that Adam was FORMED, but those from the sixth day (Gen 1:27) were CREATED. Also notice that Adam was formed alone, for Eve does not show up until eighteen verses later in (Gen 2:22); but in the sixth day creation, man and women were created simultaneously (Gen 1:27).
[3] man – This is a very special word in the Hebrew language, and this is the first time that it appears in connection with The Lord God. It is also seen in Gen 1:27, Gen 2:8, 2:15 and Gen 6:4, it has a special word in the Hebrew text that is not used in the English language. This particular English word ‘man,’ has in the Hebrew language what is called the article and it also has the particle. This makes this word very emphatic.
Eve will be MADE (Hebrew word H1129, Created is H1254, and Formed is H3335) from Adam later in Gen 2:22. The reason for Adam and Eve being singled out from the creation of the rest of mankind is because four-thousand years later through the womb of Eve, the Messiah Jesus the Christ, would be born. The Bible is basically the story of one man’s family and the peoples that they encounter through-out history. That is the history of Adams family, through which Jesus Christ would come. And through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross, all peoples from all the Nations (eth’-nos in the Greek of the New Testament, & goyem in the Hebrew of the Old Testament) of the earth can be grafted into the eternal family of God in the eternity, in Heaven!
It was in His (the Lord God’s) image that The Adam was formed. EDC claim this because in the New Testament Jesus is referred to as the last Adam (we cover that fully later on in this study). The reason for this is so that there would be a direct genetic lineage from God Almighty Himself, through the man Adam (whom God formed), and through Eve (whom God took from Adam), through Seth, all the way down through successive generations, umbilical cord to umbilical cord, through which would be born Jesus Christ (who was a virgin birth from God through Mary). Thus Jesus Christ would be the perfect Lamb – without spot or blemish – the perfect and once for all time sacrifice, for the atonement of the sins of all mankind! He was of God physically and Spiritually.
This is also why Eve is referred to as “the Mother of all living”, for through her would come the Savior, Jesus Christ, and through Him all could live – eternally. Many read that Eve was the mother of all living, and confuse it to mean that she was the first woman. This is not so, actually, the word “Eve” in the Hebrew language means: “Mother of all living,” the Bible interpreting it for you by saying “And Adam called his wife’s name Eve, because she was the mother of all living.” (Gen 3:20). For Eve, and all other peoples could live eternal by the fruit of her womb, Jesus; hence it is written of Eve: “…she will be saved in childbearing if they continue in faith, love, and holiness, with self-control.” (1 Tim 2:13-15).
Here is a quick look at Genesis 2:21-23 that documents that Eve was taken from Adam:
And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. Then the rib which the LORD God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man. And Adam said: “This is now bone of my bones And flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, Because she was taken out of Man.”
According to the EDC, in the above, the words “a woman” has an Article. For this woman above is la’ishaah but a woman in general is simply ishaah. In other words this particular woman was made by God out of Adam, not that all women are made this way. This is further strength to the argument that the sixth day and eight day creations were different, for in the sixth day we see that “…male and female created he them” (Gen 1:27) but here in the eighth day we see that “…the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman….” (Gen 2:22).
And with the Articles and Particles shown, which are not visible in the English languages, we have:
- * “…the [the (particle)] rib, which the LORD God had taken from [the (Article)] man, made he a [the (Article)] woman….” (Gen 2:22).
- * Or, for more clarity it can be read in the English as: ”…this rib, which the LORD God had taken from that man, made he this woman.’
The EDC claim this was a special event, no other woman was made from any other man by any other ribs. Eve was from Adam, but all other women were created alongside the other men in the sixth day of God’s Creation. There is no way that this Genesis chapter two event regarding Eve can be construed as simply a further explanation of all the women being created in Genesis chapter one. This is an entirely different event with it’s own peculiarities.
Thus say the Eighth Day Creationist.
Much like someone says there was an accident at the corner. You take note and then question the 5 W’s and you find out that a red Ford Windstar hit a Yellow Toyota making a left turn at 3rd and Main around noon. God spoke to Moses and he wrote it down and then he questioned certain entries and added the information rather than filling it in chronologically.
I am not going to strictly stick to scripture but take some liberty while drawing from what science knows and align it to scripture and even inferences given in the Bible. I try to answer the hard questions of why?
God lovingly formed Adam from the red earth and breathed the breath of life into him and Adam became a living soul. He was fully grown with no belly button, no foreskin, no nipples, and no hair whatsoever.
He would not have a belly button because he was not birthed and was never connected with an umbilical cord. He would have light colored eyes and a fair complexion as the canopy (firmament) filtered out any harmful rays and the need for melanin would be available but minimal. He would not need dark eyes, which are a protective characteristic against bright sunlight. He would not need hair which is also a protective covering. Hair would grow faster and darker over his body because of the male hormones. It would come to the male offspring through the woman at birth as would the nipples. There would be no reason for Adam to have nipples except that every fetus is female for the first 21 days or so before the hormones kick start the tiny Y chromosome.
The woman formed from Adam’s rib would be different in that she would be a complement for him to “…Be fruitful and multiply;…” She would have child-bearing hips, a womb, and a birth canal. She would have breasts for nursing. She would also have light colored skin and eyes. She would have long red hair for a glory and a symbolic covering for her (1 Cor 11:15). I say red hair because Adam was formed from red earth. Like man she would not have pubic hair but her off-spring would because after their sin they covered themselves, with fig leaves, in shame.
When God removed the rib from Adam to form a woman, they were separate. In marriage they would once again join and be one and become one. The child will receive 23 chromosomes from each parent. This would enable the future Savior to become 100% man and 100% God. 23 chromosomes from the woman (mankind) and 23 from God (the Holy Spirit.)
Their descendants would have hair, nipples, belly buttons, and genital coverings of hair and foreskins. Because hair is from the woman, man could go bald. There is an instance of a prophet being bald. (2 Kings 2:23) It would appear that is OK for men to go bald, but not make themselves bald. (Jeremiah 16:6; 48:37; Ezekiel 27:31; 29:18; etc.) Now sinful, in contrast to verse 1 where Adam was made in the likeness of God they are birthed in the likeness of Adam. Sinful humanity has made it’s presence.
Whereas Adam did not need a foreskin, God probably covered his male offspring’s genitals because of the shame shown at the time of their sin. Later in His covenant with Abraham man would be circumcised to symbolically return to his pre-sin condition. He certainly would not need pubic hair and, as with the foreskin, after the fall his offspring would need it as a partial covering to replace the animal skin covering God provided.
In Genesis 3 God cursed Adam and Eve and this is probably where He fused chromosome 2 thus ensuring the sinful body would be passed on genetically.
Because of the curse, woman would now experience pain in childbirth and increased estrus multiplying her cycle to once per month as opposed to most animals of once per year. Primates also have monthly cycles but on average only give birth every three (3) years. We could very well have had 24 pair of chromosomes like the primates if our DNA was sequenced differently and not look like them. We also have genetic switches that turn on or off strands of DNA that perform certain functions, like growing tails, hair, fangs, etc. Thus, we look different even within our human family.
There has to be a logical explanation of why primates give birth with the offspring facing forward where the mother can reach down and assist her birth. The human baby on the other hand maneuvers it’s way through the pelvic area sideways then turns facing backwards so the mother cannot reach down and assist without pulling the infant against the normal flexion of its body. This would greatly increase the risk of injury particularly to the nerves of the neck. This would also be more painful in birthing than the primate model. The Genesis curse can be the only logical explanation. “In pain you shall bring forth children;”
Man will have to work the soil and tend the domestic plant life outside the Garden which now produces the weeds, thistles (all the wild plant life), and probably the pests are included in the curse for disobeying God’s commandment of not eating of the fruit of the tree of good and evil in the midst of the Garden.
In Genesis 11, because of man’s second attempt to be gods, the Almighty God changes their DNA sequencing to separate them. Same chromosomes, different sequencing. This not only gives us different languages but a different look. Some nearer the equator would require more melanin and additional protection from thicker, curlier hair and darker colored eyes. Others, further from the intensity of the sun’s harmful rays, would not need this additional protection. Although thicker skins for protection in colder climes without additional pigmentation will appear darker as with the Inuit and Yupik. He would further separate the different nations by plate tectonics. The breakup of the earth’s crust at the flood would now be subject to continental drift. “To Eber were born two sons: the name of one was Peleg, for in his days the earth was divided;” [10:25]
“In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth” (Gen 1:1)
